Situational Leadership® Model
The Situational Leadership® Model, developed by Dr. Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard, is one of the world’s most widely used leadership frameworks. It’s built on a simple but powerful idea: effective leaders don’t use just one style—they adapt their approach based on the situation and the needs of their team.
The model highlights four core leadership styles:
- Directing – Providing clear instructions and close supervision when skills are new.
- Coaching – Guiding and encouraging as competence grows, while still offering structure.
- Supporting – Empowering individuals through collaboration and confidence-building.
- Delegating – Handing over responsibility when employees are skilled, motivated, and ready.
Why it works: Leaders learn to assess both the competence and commitment of their team members and apply the right style to unlock performance. This creates faster development, stronger accountability, and a culture of adaptability.
At Elevare L&D Consulting, we help organizations implement the Situational Leadership® Model to build leaders who are flexible, responsive, and effective—no matter the challenge.
